Nkwo Ogbakuba market in Ogbaru Local Government Area has become a hub of activity as residents from surrounding towns and communities flock to purchase food items in preparation for the Christmas celebrations.
Speaking with ABS News, Chief Godwin Mbanefo, President General of Ogbakuba Development Union, highlighted the market’s reputation for selling organic foods and high-quality goods. He appealed to the federal and state governments to address the shoreline erosion caused by flooding, which has negatively impacted the community.
Chief Sunday Obi, a local resident, praised Nkwo Ogbakuba for its exceptional variety of agricultural produce, including yams, potatoes, cocoyams, plantains, fish, and vegetables, all available in large quantities and at affordable prices.
However, traders like Mrs. Nkem Nwangbo and Mrs. Josephine Okechukwu expressed concerns about the rising cost of food items, attributing it to high transportation expenses driven by increased petrol prices. They called on the government to reduce fuel costs to ease the burden on farmers and traders.
Despite the challenges, the market continues to thrive, offering residents an opportunity to stock up on essential items for the festive season.
