NLC Holds Off Strike Action Pending Presidential Decision on Minimum Wage

The Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) has announced that it will not embark on a strike action on Tuesday as initially considered to demand a new national minimum wage.

NLC President Joe Ajaero disclosed this during a press conference on Monday, stating that the proposed figures from the Tripartite Committee are currently under review by President Bola Tinubu.

Ajaero clarified that the N62,000 minimum wage proposed by the government has not yet been accepted by labor. “We cannot declare a strike now because the figures are with the President. We will wait for the President’s decision,” he said.

He recalled the tenure of the immediate past president, during which a proposed figure of N27,000 by the Tripartite Committee was increased to N30,000. “We are hopeful that this president will do the right thing,” Ajaero added.
