Nnewi Begins Demolition for Dual Road Reconstruction, Sets Stage for Economic Growth

In a major development for Nnewi’s infrastructure, the demolition of marked structures has begun, clearing the way for the highly anticipated dual road reconstruction project. This project, aimed at improving connectivity and driving economic growth, has received strong community support.

President of Nzuko-Ora Nnewi, Dr. Maduka Atuenyi, praised Governor Chukwuma Soludo for initiating the project and ensured that the demolition process proceeded smoothly, with security personnel maintaining order. Although originally scheduled for early morning, the demolition was delayed to give residents time to relocate their belongings.

Mr. Amobi Adigwulu, the supervising councilor on works in Nnewi North LGA, represented the council chairman, Mr. Echezona Anazodo, at the site. He confirmed the project’s 12-month timeline and highlighted the joint commitment of the governor and local authorities to transform Nnewi into a modern urban center. He also urged residents to cooperate with the reconstruction efforts.

Ejim Ucheagwu, President of the Nnewi Youth Forum, appealed to affected residents to endure the temporary inconvenience, noting the successful completion of Okpunoeze Road as an example of the project’s potential impact.

Many residents expressed enthusiasm for the project. Chioma Okeke, Mr. Ben, a commercial motorcyclist, and Mr. Mike, a Keke driver, commended the governor’s efforts, expressing optimism about the long-term benefits for the community. “God bless Soludo for this; more is coming,” remarked Mr. Mike.

The demolition work started at Owerri Road near the roundabout junction and is progressing toward the Ozubulu-Okija Road axis, setting the foundation for a transformative infrastructure project in the heart of Nnewi.
