Residents of Nnewi North and South Local Government Areas in Anambra State celebrated a three-day free medical outreach organized by the Chidi Anyaegbu Foundation in collaboration with Living Hope Medical Centre, USA. The event, held at Pat-Angelina Anyaegbu Hospital in Amichi, Nnewi South, attracted over 2,000 individuals seeking medical care.
The outreach provided examinations and treatments for various health issues, including eye and dental problems, prostate cancer, and fibroids. The opening ceremony featured an interdenominational service led by the Anglican Bishop of Amichi, Right Reverend Ephraim Ikeakor, who emphasized the importance of addressing both physical and spiritual illnesses.
Chief and Mrs. Chidi Anyaegbu of Chisco Group, founders of the Chidi Anyaegbu Foundation, explained that they initiated the outreach to reduce preventable deaths in the community. They also donated a state-of-the-art ambulance to the hospital and pledged to continue the free medical services.
Dr. and Dr. Mrs. Onyebuchi Acho, founders of Living Hope Medical Centre, USA, highlighted their commitment to improving healthcare access for the underprivileged. The event received praise from the Commissioner for Environment, Engr. Felix Odimegwu, and the Transition Committee Chairman of Nnewi South, Mr. Van-George Ezeogidi, who recognized its significant impact on the local communities.
Beneficiaries like Augustina Chukwujekwu and Sabinus Ihuoha, who underwent eye surgeries, expressed gratitude for the restored vision and the opportunity for treatment they otherwise could not afford. Ophthalmologist Dr. Onyinye Onyia urged individuals over 40 to have annual eye check-ups, while Dr. Chimaobi Evuchaewe, who has been involved in the program for over a decade, emphasized the hospital’s capability to perform major surgeries with a qualified medical team.
