Nollywood veteran Binta Ayo Mogaji, popularly known as Mama Insurance, recently shared her journey to motherhood on the ‘Talk To B’ podcast, revealing that she had her first child at the age of 40.
Mogaji recounted a challenging experience with an ectopic pregnancy, which necessitated the surgical removal of one of her fallopian tubes. Despite this, she was able to conceive and give birth naturally.
“Unfortunately enough, the pregnancy was ectopic,” Mogaji said. “They took me to seven different hospitals. The doctor said he wasn’t sure I could survive until the next day. The operation took them like seven to nine hours. Some of my colleagues who visited me at the hospital were crying. The surgeons had to remove one fallopian tube. But I’m living with one and I had my child through natural birth.”
Reflecting on her mindset before having her child, Mogaji explained that she had resolved to adopt if she hadn’t conceived by the age of 40. “I stopped looking for a husband; I wanted to make a baby. I said if I don’t have a baby until I’m 40, then I’ll adopt a child,” she shared.
Mogaji gave birth to her son just six weeks after turning 40. She noted that, at the time, she and the father of her child were not interested in marriage. “Jibola came shortly before I was 40 because I had my baby six weeks after I became 40 years old. But he didn’t want to get married as well,” she said.
Her story highlights her determination and resilience, offering inspiration to many facing similar challenges.
