Non-Oil Exporters Urged to Prioritize Organic Farming and Standard Packaging for International Markets

In a bid to equip non-oil exporters with essential knowledge for international trade success, a one-day seminar titled ‘How To Earn In Dollars Through Export’ was held in Awka, emphasizing the critical role of certification and standardization in penetrating global markets.

Organized by Denca Global Courier (DGC) Express in collaboration with the Anambra State Committee on Export within the Ministry of Commerce and Industry, the seminar aimed to enlighten participants on vital steps to ensure the acceptance of Nigerian products in international markets.

Dr. Onyinye Okpah, Export Director of DGC Express, underscored the partnership with the Anambra State Committee on Export as part of the company’s commitment to social responsibility, emphasizing Governor Chukwuma Soludo’s administration’s dedication to positioning Anambra as a leader in exportation.

Highlighting the profitability of export over import activities, Dr. Okpah urged attendees to focus on agricultural expansion and year-round farming to increase production volumes. She stressed the importance of thorough market research, understanding export regulations, and adopting proper packaging techniques to enhance product competitiveness and market access.

Representatives from regulatory agencies echoed the importance of standardization and compliance. Mr. Fidelis Warri Boko of the Standards Organization Of Nigeria (SON) emphasized zero tolerance for substandard products, while Mrs. Elizabeth Bott from the Nigerian Customs Service highlighted the significance of documentation and agency visits for seamless export processes.

Mr. Peter Udom, Anambra State Coordinator of the Nigeria Export Promotion Council (NEPC), outlined incentives and support programs available to exporters, emphasizing market penetration strategies and the establishment of a domestic export warehouse in the state to facilitate product preparation and monitoring.

Additional contributions from officials such as Mrs. Nwabugo Okonkwo, Director Of Cooperatives, Ministry Of Commerce, Dr. Tonia Anyamene, Export State Desk Officer, and Professor Nkiru Meludu emphasized the importance of aggressive organic farming to elevate Anambra State’s export prowess.

The seminar concluded with attendees empowered with actionable insights to enhance their export endeavors, positioning Anambra as a key player in the global trade arena.
