NOUN Vice-Chancellor Assures Students of Resolving Portal Glitches and Other Concerns

The Vice-Chancellor of the National Open University of Nigeria (NOUN), Prof. Olufemi Peters, has assured students that the institution is working to resolve ongoing technical issues, particularly with the university portal. Prof. Peters gave this assurance during a virtual town hall meeting with students, the university announced on Monday.

The meeting, aimed at addressing a wide range of student concerns, touched on various issues including exam-related challenges, outdated course materials, and refund processes.

Prof. Peters acknowledged students’ frustrations with technical glitches during Computer-Based Tests (CBT) and the use of outdated course materials, explaining that the institution operates on a three-year review cycle for exam questions. He reassured students that updates to course materials would be made soon.

“We understand the frustrations some of you face due to the use of outdated course materials during exams. The solution is not lost, and we will make the necessary adjustments,” Peters said.

He also addressed concerns regarding the integrity of the Tutor Marked Assignment (TMA) platform, revealing that attempts had been made to compromise the system. While the initial response was to cancel TMA scores for affected students, the university opted instead to adjust their exam grading, allowing scores to be calculated out of 100 points.

On refund delays, the Vice-Chancellor assured students that leftover funds in their wallets would be processed as soon as possible, following a thorough verification process. Additionally, he discussed plans to streamline the distribution of course materials, ensuring timely and efficient access for students at study centers across the state capitals.

Peters also emphasized the importance of adhering to GST courses for accreditation purposes, urging students to complete the necessary courses to avoid complications with graduation or certification.

He concluded by thanking students for their active participation and reaffirmed NOUN’s commitment to improving infrastructure and services through partnerships with agencies like TetFund. Prof. Peters promised continued communication on these issues via the university’s official channels.
