NSCDC Anambra Command to Bolster School Security Under Safe Schools Project

The Anambra Command of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) has announced its commitment to providing comprehensive security for schools across the state as part of its Safe Schools Project. This initiative was unveiled by the State Commandant, Mr. Olatunde Maku, during a courtesy visit to the Managing Director of the Anambra Broadcasting Service (ABS), Sir Chido Obidiegwu, in Awka.

Mr. Maku emphasized that the NSCDC will ensure the safety of primary, secondary, and tertiary institutions. The project will start with the training and retraining of teachers and parents, alongside sensitization programs for schools and communities, as outlined in the corps’ action plan.

Speaking through his deputy, Mr. Francis Nnadi, Mr. Maku highlighted that the National Safe Schools Project requires collaboration beyond security agencies, involving schools, tertiary institutions, and host communities. The initiative aims not only to facilitate smooth teaching and learning but also to address issues such as rape, kidnapping, sexual harassment, intimidation, cultism, and bullying.

Mr. Maku also stressed the need for broader publicity of the NSSRCC activities and sought partnership with ABS to integrate students into its programs.

Assistant Commandant and Safe School Coordinator for Anambra State Command, Mr. Uchenna Okafor, added that the project would adopt a sensitization and awareness approach through train-the-trainer workshops. These workshops will provide basic security tips and techniques for identifying potential threats.

In response, ABS Managing Director Sir Chido Obidiegwu expressed gratitude for the visit and assured the command of ABS’s ongoing partnership. He praised the Safe Schools Project, noting its potential to enhance security preparedness and safeguard the well-being of students and communities in line with the Soludo administration’s goals.
