The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Anambra State Command, has arrested two suspected members of a tricycle-snatching syndicate in Awka and recovered the stolen tricycle.
Confirming the arrest at the NSCDC State Headquarters in Awka, the State Commandant, Maku Olatunde, said the suspects were apprehended after snatching a tricycle from a victim at Araba Umuzocha, near Regina Junction along Ziks Avenue, Awka.
According to Commandant Maku, the suspects were part of a three-man gang operating in Awka and its environs. They were caught while attempting to escape, following a tip-off from members of the public. Two suspects, Obum Charles, 24, of Umueze Road, Amudo Village, Awka, and Chukwunonso Ekeh, 27, of Onueyiagu Street, Amachala, Awka, were arrested, while one accomplice remains at large.
Preliminary investigations indicate that the syndicate specializes in snatching tricycles, robbing riders and passengers of their belongings. The suspects are currently assisting the command with information to track down the fleeing accomplice.
Commandant Maku praised the bravery of the operatives involved in the operation, reiterating the command’s readiness to protect lives and property across the state.
He assured that the suspects would be prosecuted upon the conclusion of investigations.
