The National Senior Secondary Education Commission (NSSEC) has announced plans to upgrade infrastructure in 50 selected senior secondary schools across Nigeria. The initiative is part of the agency’s intervention mandate, according to NSSEC Executive Secretary, Dr. Iyela Ajayi, who revealed the details during a groundbreaking ceremony in Koton Karfe, Kogi State, on Wednesday.
Dr. Ajayi noted that a comprehensive NEEDS assessment had been conducted in the selected schools as part of the rehabilitation initiative directed by President Bola Tinubu. The first phase of the project is set to cost ₦47.5 billion.
“This is just the first phase. After completing this phase, we will report to the President and the minister to proceed with the next phase. Schools that are not part of this phase should remain patient as we will address them later,” Ajayi stated.
Established in 2021 under the administration of former President Muhammadu Buhari, the NSSEC is tasked with improving the standards of senior secondary schools nationwide.
