The Director General of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), Brigadier General YD Ahmed, has called on Corps Employers across the country to improve the welfare packages of Corps Members serving in their organizations.
General Ahmed said the move would boost the morale of Corps Members, enhance productivity, and help cushion the effects of the prevailing economic situation.
He made the appeal when the Acting Controller General of the Nigerian Correctional Service, CG Sylvester Nwakuche, paid him a courtesy visit at the NYSC headquarters in Abuja.
Commending the correctional service for its role in inmate rehabilitation, General Ahmed acknowledged the contributions of Corps Lawyers under the Legal Aid Community Development Service (CDS) group, who have been offering free legal services and securing the release of some inmates.
In his remarks, CG Nwakuche, who recalled his service year in Kaduna, praised the NYSC deployment policy, describing it as a vital tool for fostering national unity and integration.
He sought the deployment of Corps Doctors, Psychologists, Lawyers, and other professionals to boost the manpower of the correctional service — a request General Ahmed granted, reaffirming NYSC’s commitment to supporting national development.
