The Director General of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), Brigadier General YD Ahmed, has called on Corps Members to embrace selflessness and patriotism during their service year.
Addressing Corps Members at the Abia State Orientation Camp in Umunna and the Akwa Ibom State Orientation Camp in Ikot-Idie, Brigadier General Ahmed emphasized the importance of transforming inter-tribal differences into tools for fostering national unity and integration.
He encouraged the Corps Members to build mutual relationships and create lasting memories, noting that NYSC was founded to promote national cohesion. The Director General also urged them to uphold the ideals of the Scheme’s founding fathers and excel in their places of primary assignment, contributing meaningfully to national development.
“Settle down in your places of primary assignment after the orientation course and engage in positive activities,” Brigadier General Ahmed advised.
During the visits, the Abia State NYSC Coordinator, Mrs. Gladys Adama, reported that 1,175 Corps Members (500 males and 675 females) had been registered in the camp, all actively participating in activities. Similarly, the Akwa Ibom State Coordinator, Mr. Sam Pepple, informed the Director General that 1,233 Corps Members (523 males and 710 females) were registered.
The Director General’s address reinforced the NYSC’s commitment to national integration and the importance of selfless service in nation-building.
