The Director General of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), Brigadier General Olakunle Nafiu, has urged Local Government Inspectors (LGIs) across the country to enhance their efficiency, discipline, and integrity, noting that these qualities are vital to maintaining a positive public image of the Scheme.

Addressing participants at a Capacity Building Workshop for LGIs held in Abuja, General Nafiu emphasized the crucial role of the inspectors as the grassroots link between NYSC management and corps members across the 774 local government areas.

He stated that NYSC’s adoption of the Integrated System (NIS), Biometric Clearance Mechanism, and other digital tools was aimed at promoting transparency, efficiency, and quality service delivery.

However, the Director General stressed that technology alone cannot bring transformation without the commitment of the operators. “The success of every innovation we introduce depends on your willingness to adopt, adapt, and apply digital tools with discipline and purpose. This workshop is therefore not just a training exercise; it is an opportunity to redefine how you approach your duties, using technology as a catalyst for performance and accountability,” he said.

General Nafiu encouraged the inspectors to uphold professionalism and ethical conduct while developing the digital competencies needed to thrive in a data-driven environment. He called on them to embody NYSC’s core values of patriotism, honesty, and service, adding that they must inspire corps members by example.

He also commended the resilience and dedication of the field officers and revealed that management was taking steps to provide them with improved operational tools to boost their performance.

In her welcome address, the Director of Information and Communication Technology, Mrs. Aminat Arunah, said the workshop reflected NYSC’s strong commitment to using technology to promote discipline, accountability, and efficiency in corps administration.

According to her, the theme of the workshop, “Capacity Building Initiative: A Pathway to Enhancing Local Government Inspectors’ Efficiency in Corps Members’ Administration Using Digital Tools,” aligns with NYSC’s vision of strengthening field operations through technology-driven competence.

Mrs. Arunah emphasized that as a forward-looking institution, NYSC must continue to evolve in line with global technological trends. She noted that the sustainability of the Scheme’s innovations largely depended on the commitment of the Local Government Inspectors.

She added that initiatives such as the NYSC Integrated System (NIS) and Monthly Biometric Clearance have greatly enhanced transparency, accountability, and efficiency within the Scheme. “This initiative empowers informed decision-making, minimizes administrative delays, and upholds the integrity of NYSC operations. Ultimately, it reflects our vision of a digitally proficient workforce capable of sustaining excellence in a fast-evolving public service environment,” she said.
