The Director General of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), Brigadier General Olakunle Nafiu, has called on managers of the Scheme’s ventures and farms to adopt innovative strategies in order to remain competitive and productive in today’s challenging economic environment.
Speaking at a meeting of Ventures Managers and NYSC partners at the National Merit Award House in Maitama, Abuja, the Director General—represented by the Director of Legal Services, Barrister Christopher Ogar—emphasized the importance of adapting to current realities. He noted that the theme of the meeting, “Harnessing Stakeholders Support for Effective Planning and Management of NYSC Ventures,” is timely and reflects the direction the Scheme must take to build on recent gains.
Commending the managers for their commitment and the revenue generated by the department in recent years, General Nafiu encouraged them to sustain their efforts and explore new approaches that could yield greater results despite challenges such as climate change, inconsistent rainfall, limited working capital, market instability, and technological disruptions.
“These challenges are not without their opportunities. They present us a chance to innovate and collaborate in ways that will advance our goals,” he said.
The Director General also assured participants that exceptional performance would be rewarded by NYSC management, while warning that unethical conduct would attract sanctions.
In his remarks, the Acting Director of NYSC Ventures Management Department, Mr. Abe Dankaro Ashumate, said the meeting aimed to review the Scheme’s 2024 performance, assess strengths and weaknesses, and identify opportunities and threats. This, he said, would guide strategic planning for the 2025 production season.
Ashumate urged participants to engage with open minds, collaborate, and remain committed to achieving excellence in their roles.
