Former President Olusegun Obasanjo has urged affluent Nigerians to take action in alleviating the economic difficulties faced by the less privileged in the country. He made this appeal during the 25th edition of the Omo Olowu Day celebration, held at Oba Odeleye Park, Oke-Sokori in Abeokuta over the weekend.
Obasanjo also encouraged Ogun State Governor Dapo Abiodun to collaborate with the Owu Kingdom to boost agriculture, trade, and business initiatives, aiming for sustainable development and food security within the region.
In response, Governor Abiodun reiterated his administration’s commitment to enhancing the state’s tourism potential, highlighting the importance of cultural and infrastructural development. He stated, “Our administration is steadfast in its commitment to developing tourism as part of our broader social, cultural, and infrastructural development initiatives.”
Abiodun emphasized that grassroots development remains a priority, with a focus on placing the community at the center of their future-building agenda. “This festival not only reminds us of our rich cultural heritage but also underscores essential values like communal harmony, love, and unity, which are as relevant today as ever,” he added.
The governor acknowledged the role of culture and tradition in shaping the state’s identity and expressed optimism about the collaborative efforts with individuals, corporations, and the private sector in promoting cultural enrichment and economic growth. He also welcomed the agricultural cooperative project mentioned by Obasanjo, promising full support from his administration.
