Edo State Governor, Mr. Godwin Obaseki, has submitted criminal law and disability rights bills to the Edo State Assembly. In a related move, he has ensured the early payment of June salaries and pensions for workers and pensioners in Edo State, ahead of the Sallah celebration, fulfilling a promise made during the commissioning of the Edo State Secretariat Complex in Benin City.
In a statement, Commissioner for Communications and Orientation, Hon. Chris Nehikhare, confirmed the early payments. He said, “The Edo State Governor, Mr. Godwin Obaseki, has paid the June salaries of workers and pensions. This aligns with the government’s practice of meeting its salary obligations before the 26th of every month, enabling our Muslim brothers and sisters to enjoy a good Sallah celebration.”
Nehikhare reiterated the government’s commitment to prioritizing the welfare of workers and pensioners, noting that extensive reforms in the public and civil service have made Edo the most attractive public employer in Nigeria.
“Civil and public servants in Edo State continue to receive prompt payment of their salaries, even after the state’s minimum wage was raised from N40,000 to N70,000, the highest in the country. We will continue to prioritize workers’ welfare, ensuring they are empowered and supported to deliver optimal and quality services to the people of Edo,” he added.
