The Traditional Ruler of Obosi, Idemili North Local Government Area, Anambra State, Igwe Chidubem Iweka (Eze Iweka III), has inaugurated a 16-member committee tasked with raising funds and overseeing the construction of the Obosi Central Palace and Iba-Adike.
The historic event, held at Igwe Iweka’s royal palace, marks the beginning of a transformative chapter for the ancient Obosi kingdom. The proposed N700 million project aims to provide a befitting palace for successive kings, symbolizing the unity and rich heritage of the Obosi people.
Expressing his delight, Igwe Iweka prayed for peace and the project’s successful completion, emphasizing its importance to the community’s future. The President General of the Obosi Development Union (ODU), Chimezie Obi, highlighted the kingdom’s centuries-old tradition of monarchy. He lamented the absence of a modern palace befitting Obosi’s status, which inspired the initiative to construct the Central Palace.
The palace and Iba-Adike will be strategically located at a historic site where the five villages of Obosi intersect, symbolizing the kingdom’s unity. The site lies between the Obosi township stadium and the Afor-Adike market, covering adjoining lands from all four cardinal points.
Committee Chairman Mr. Eric Anyamene assured the community of prudent management of funds, emphasizing transparency and accountability. He pledged that monthly financial statements would be published to maintain public trust.
The construction is expected to be completed within 24 months, signaling a new era of cultural and infrastructural development in Obosi.
