In a significant move to combat illegal mining in Anambra State, the Operation Clean and Healthy Anambra (OCHA) Brigade’s mining task force has struck a major blow against unauthorized miners.
The task force, dedicated to curbing illegal mining and mitigating land erosion, made notable progress in Awkuzu and Ogbunike in Oyi Local Government Area, and Ojoto in Idemili South Council Area. During their operations, they arrested several suspects involved in illegal sand mining and impounded over ten trucks loaded with sand.
Comrade Celestine Anere, Managing Director of the OCHA Brigade, stated that this development is a crucial step in restoring order to the state’s mining sector. He emphasized that it is essential for mineral resources to be exploited legally and responsibly.
Comrade Anere vowed to continue the crackdown to ensure full compliance with state mining laws and regulations. He called on all stakeholders to support the state government’s efforts in achieving its objectives in the mining sector.
He issued a stern warning to all illegal mining companies and individuals to cease their activities immediately, asserting that the law would take its course against any unauthorized mining activities, with offenders facing prosecution.
