Odegbami Cautions Musa Against NPFL Return Amid AFCON Aspirations

Nigerian football legend Segun Odegbami has advised Super Eagles captain Ahmed Musa against his reported plans to return to the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL). Odegbami suggested that Musa’s move may be a strategy to regain a spot in the national team ahead of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).

Musa, 31, recently expressed interest in rejoining the NPFL, having previously played for Kano Pillars. Odegbami noted that this decision comes six months after Musa’s departure from the national team and a lack of contract offers abroad.

“It is in the news now that Musa will be rejoining his former team, Kano Pillars FC, this season. He intends to leverage that ‘project’ to play his way back into the Super Eagles for the 2025 AFCON in Morocco,” Odegbami remarked, as reported by Complete Sports.

He emphasized that few players in Nigeria’s football history have successfully returned to the NPFL to end their careers, and he wished Musa luck in this ambitious endeavor.
