Over 1,000 farmers in Ogbaru Local Government Area have been trained and provided with free vegetable seedlings as part of efforts to promote dry season farming. The initiative was organized by the Ogbaru Economic Development Summit Team in collaboration with the Agriculture Development Think Tank Committee and She Grows Her Food Initiative.
The training, held at a demonstration farm in Atani, drew participants from various communities in the area. The program stems from the outcomes of the Ogbaru Economic Summit held in October to align with Governor Chukwuma Soludo’s developmental agenda and drive economic prosperity in the region.
Speaking during the event, the Anambra State Coordinator of She Grows Her Food Initiative, Mr. Linus Uhuo, revealed that 90 youths previously trained at Songhai Farms are now serving as master trainers, cascading their knowledge to the 1,000 farmers.
Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Agriculture, and Chairperson of the Ogbaru Agricultural Development Think Tank Committee, Mrs. Ifenyinwa Uzoka, emphasized the state’s focus on boosting dry season farming, particularly in flood-prone areas like Ogbaru. She commended the program’s alignment with state initiatives, such as the Farm to Feed Initiative and Nonye Soludo’s Healthy Living campaign promoting organic and nutritious foods.
Participants, including master trainer Mrs. Blessing Ogene from Amiyi and farmer Mrs. Regina Oduenyi, expressed gratitude for the training and resources. They pledged to utilize the skills and seedlings to improve their livelihoods and contribute to the region’s agricultural development.
This initiative highlights the state’s commitment to empowering farmers and enhancing food security through sustainable agricultural practices.
