Traders at the Ogbo-Osisi Market in Bridge Head, Onitsha, are urging the government to take decisive action following a devastating fire outbreak that razed over 100 shops and destroyed goods worth millions of naira in the zinc dealers and furniture section of the market.
Speaking with ABS News, the Line Chairman, Chief Emmanuel Edochie, and affected traders, including Mr. Nwabueze Nwonye and Mrs. Rita Uzondu, expressed their frustration over the incident. They revealed that this is the second fire outbreak in their section of the market this year, leaving shop owners struggling to recover from the heavy losses.
The traders emphasized the urgent need for government intervention to enhance safety measures in the market. They called on the state government and relevant agencies to provide support, including fire prevention mechanisms and emergency response systems, to prevent a recurrence of such tragedies.
The incident underscores the vulnerability of the market and highlights the critical need for collaborative efforts to ensure the safety of lives and property.
