The Speaker of the Ogun State House of Assembly, Hon. Oludaisi Elemide, has emphasized the urgent need for increased investment in technical and vocational education to address Nigeria’s skilled manpower deficit and support technological and infrastructural development.
Speaking at the Assembly Complex in Abeokuta during a visit by a delegation from the Ahmadiyya Muslim Jama’at of Nigeria, Elemide praised the inauguration of Masroor International Technical College (MITC). The college, funded by the International Ahmadi Architects and Engineers Association (IAAAE), aims to bolster technical education in Ogun State.
Elemide lamented the lack of skilled workers in technical fields and highlighted ongoing efforts by the Assembly and the state’s executive arm to revive technical and vocational training programs. These initiatives, he said, would support infrastructure development, create jobs, and prepare human capital for export to meet global demands.
Deputy Speaker, Hon. Bolanle Lateefat Ajayi, commended the Ahmadiyya Muslim Jama’at for its contributions to education. She revealed plans to sponsor five constituents through vocational programs at the newly inaugurated college.
### **Focus on Skill Development**
The chairmen of IAAAE Europe and Nigeria, Sir Akram Ahmed and Alhaji Mufadhil Bankole, outlined the institution’s curriculum. MITC will offer training in diverse fields, including electrical installation, refrigeration and air conditioning, plumbing, ICT (hardware and software), and building construction (bricklaying, masonry, and tiling).
The initiative is expected to bridge skill gaps, enhance employment opportunities, and contribute to the state’s socioeconomic growth.
