Ogun State Governor Dapo Abiodun Urges Corps Members to Contribute to Nation-Building

Ogun State Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun, has called on corps members deployed to the state to offer dedicated services to their host communities and contribute to nation-building during their National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) year. The governor made these remarks at the swearing-in ceremony for the 2024 Batch B Stream 2 Orientation course at the NYSC Permanent Orientation Camp, Gateway International Stadium, Sagamu.

Represented by the Commissioner for Sports Development, Hon. Wasiu Isiaka, Governor Abiodun emphasized the importance of the three-week orientation exercise as the foundation for the service year. He noted that the orientation is designed to instill the values and objectives of the NYSC and equip the corps members with the necessary skills to meet the challenges ahead.

“The course is also to equip you with skills that will enable you to meet the challenges of the service year. In addition, it is to provide you with a platform for interaction and cross-fertilization of ideas, thereby facilitating national integration and development,” the governor stated.

He commended the corps members for quickly adapting to the regimented camp life and urged them to fully engage with the orientation course, as it would impact their performance throughout the service year.

In her address, the NYSC Ogun State Coordinator, Mrs. Olayinka Nasamu, welcomed the corps members and highlighted the importance of appreciating each other’s culture and religion to promote national unity. She reported that a total of 1,983 graduates were registered for Ogun State, with an additional 521 dislodged from Lagos State, comprising 1,418 females and 1,084 males.

Mrs. Nasamu also expressed gratitude to Governor Abiodun for his support of the NYSC scheme in Ogun State, particularly in ensuring the safety and well-being of the corps members.

The ceremony featured a symbolic oath-taking exercise conducted by the Chief Judge of Ogun State, Honourable Justice Mosunmola Dipeolu, represented by Honourable Justice Tajudeen Okunsokan, and a health lecture delivered by the Commissioner for Health, Dr. Funmi Coker, represented by Dr. Festus Adetonwa.

The orientation training programme marks the beginning of the national service year for the new corps members.
