Ohanaeze Ndigbo Welcomes President Tinubu to Enugu, Hopes for Nnamdi Kanu’s Release

The apex Igbo socio-cultural organization, Ohanaeze Ndigbo Worldwide, has expressed enthusiasm ahead of President Bola Tinubu’s visit to Enugu State today, hoping it could mark a turning point for the release of the detained leader of the proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Nnamdi Kanu.

During his one-day visit, President Tinubu is expected to commission projects executed by Governor Peter Mbah’s administration, according to a statement by Prof. Chidiebere Onyia, the Secretary to the Enugu State Government.

In a statement issued by its National Publicity Secretary, Alex Ogbonnia, Ohanaeze Ndigbo lauded what it described as the Federal Government’s gradual change in attitude towards the Igbo.

“Ohanaeze Ndigbo expresses immense delight over the gradual attitudinal change of the Federal Government towards the Igbo. National peace, unity, patriotism, and sustainable economic development can only be achieved through equity and social justice,” the statement read.

The group highlighted the hardships faced by the Igbo due to perceived marginalization and external insecurity threats. They called on President Tinubu to use the Enugu visit as an opportunity to address these issues and leave a lasting legacy.

“It is hoped that with the Enugu visit, President Tinubu will write his name with gold in the hearts of Ndigbo and all well-meaning Nigerians if he orders the release of Mazi Nnamdi Kanu,” the statement added.

The visit comes amid heightened expectations for renewed federal engagement with the Southeast region.
