Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu University (COOU) recently celebrated its 14th Inaugural Lecture Series with a grand ceremony.
The event commenced with a procession featuring university academics, council members, and esteemed guests, accompanied by an opening prayer led by Reverend Father Professor Sylvanus Nnoruka.
In her address, Acting Vice-Chancellor Professor Kate Omenugha praised the inaugural lecturer for his courage in publicly embracing his role as a professor. She expressed her pleasure at the resurgence of inaugural lectures under her tenure. Professor Omenugha noted that the university had hosted only eight inaugural lectures before her appointment seven months ago, but the count has now reached fourteen, with schedules extending to March 2025. She emphasized the university’s commitment to fostering intellectual discourse and elevating its global standing.
Professor Moses Chendo read the citation for the 14th Inaugural Lecturer, Professor Paschal Oguno, who delivered a lecture on “The Dialectics of Electronic Wills: Existential Evaluation.” Professor Oguno, a specialist in International Law and Jurisprudence, discussed the legal and practical aspects of wills, highlighting the advantages of electronic wills over traditional paper ones. He stressed the importance of ensuring a will includes a certificate of mental fitness to streamline the process after the testator’s death.
Mrs. Josephine Oguno, the lecturer’s wife, expressed gratitude and admiration for her husband, while Professor Obiajulu Obikeze extended thanks for favorable weather and the presence of distinguished guests, including the Commissioner for Education, Professor Ngozi Chuma-Udeh, and other notable figures.
The ceremony concluded with a decoration of Professor Oguno by the Acting Vice-Chancellor, marking a fitting end to the successful event.
