In a bid to enhance routine immunization efforts and combat vaccine-preventable diseases, the Mayor of Onitsha North, Hon. Tony Nweze Nwora, has inaugurated a dedicated Immunization Task Force and officially flagged off the first round of the National Immunization Plus Days (NIPDs).
The launch event, held at St. Mary’s Catholic Church podium on Awka Road, was represented by the Supervisory Councillor for Health, who emphasized the need for strong leadership, efficient fund management, and the deployment of experienced mobilization personnel to ensure the success of the campaign. He urged the task force to maintain coordination and accountability in their work.
Mrs. Elizabeth Ezedinachi, Director of Onitsha North Healthcare Services, commended the Mayor, Health Supervisor, and the Anambra State Ministry of Health for their unwavering support. She explained that the four-day campaign, running through May 6, will reach children aged 0 to 59 months in homes, schools, and churches with oral polio vaccines.
Representatives from UNICEF’s vaccine management support team, including Ifezulike Adaobi Maureen and Dr. Abubakar M. Sani, participated in the Abuja segment of the campaign’s rollout.
The Immunization Task Force, chaired by the Deputy Mayor and composed of members from the Health Department and National Orientation Agency, is tasked with ensuring comprehensive community-level mobilization, implementation, and monitoring to achieve maximum coverage and uphold the quality of immunization services.
