Fifty indigent students in Anambra State have received N200,000 each in scholarship funds from Chief Chukwuebuka Onunkwo, a philanthropist, politician, and CEO of Seahorse Lubricants.
The N10 million scholarship scheme was awarded to students from public tertiary institutions in Anambra, selected from over 2,000 applicants. The program targets students in their second year who come from economically disadvantaged backgrounds but possess strong academic performance and valid financial need.
Speaking through Chief Emeka Odilika during the cheque presentation, Chief Onunkwo revealed that provisions were also made for students with disabilities. He announced plans to launch another N1.5 million scholarship program soon.
The President of the ASATU Youth Wing, Comrade Ken Okoli, and the Chairman of the Scholarship Committee, Dr. Tochukwu Obiadi, emphasized that beneficiaries were strictly chosen from public institutions to ensure the funds reach those genuinely in need. They maintained a rigorous selection process to prevent unqualified individuals from being included.
The Managing Director of Anambra Broadcasting Service, Mr. Chris Molokwu, urged the beneficiaries to make good use of the opportunity to improve their lives.
Grateful recipients, such as Emmanuela Ohaemesi and Nancy Senator, expressed their appreciation to Chief Onunkwo, praying for his long life and good health. They also pledged to work harder to justify his investment in their education.
