A 300-level Philosophy student of Olabisi Onabanjo University (OOU), Ayomide Adeleye, has been arrested in connection with the kidnapping and alleged murder of Christiannah Idowu, a student at the Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta (FUNAAB). The case has sparked widespread outrage on social media, with Nigerians demanding justice for Christiannah.
Christiannah was reported missing on August 19, 2024, after her parents received messages from her abductors via her own WhatsApp account. The kidnappers demanded a ransom of N1.5 million but only N350,000 was initially raised and transferred to a betting account. Despite receiving the money, the abductors cut off communication with the family.
Further investigation revealed that funds had been transferred from Christiannah’s account to the primary suspect’s accounts. Police tracked the suspect, Ayomide, to his parent’s house in Ikorodu, Lagos, where he was arrested by the Nigerian Army.
Ayomide reportedly confessed to both his father and law enforcement that he had killed Christiannah and buried her at his home. Investigators also uncovered disturbing links to previous deaths, including the murder of his ex-girlfriend in 2018 and his sister in 2020.
The Lagos State Police Spokesman, SP Benjamin Hundeyin, confirmed that Ayomide had been handed over to the police for further investigation. The case has drawn significant attention, with calls for swift prosecution and justice for Christiannah.
