The Osun State Police Command has arrested seven individuals, including two mortuary attendants, for allegedly selling human body parts and water used to bathe corpses. The arrests followed credible information received from a concerned citizen.
In a statement released by the acting Police Public Relations Officer, Mr. Emmanuel Giwa-Alade, the suspects were identified as Johnson Daniel, 43, and Adetunji Okunade, 42, both mortuary attendants. Others implicated include Olaniyan Azeez, Balogun Temitope, Oladapo Hammed, Kazeem Rasaq, and Asaka Rauf.
Daniel, a mortuary attendant at Ipetu-Ijesa, was accused of selling body parts from the mortuary to native doctors for ritual purposes. He also confessed to conspiring with Okunade to sell water used in bathing corpses.
During a search of the suspects’ homes, human skull fragments were found at the residences of Rauf and Hammed. Additionally, a female pant and a notebook with ritual instructions were recovered from Balogun Temitope’s home.
In a separate incident, three people were arrested for advocating for the Yoruba Nation. Oluwafemi Fagbuyi was arrested in Ikire for urging people to renounce their allegiance to Nigeria, claiming that the nation had ceased to exist after the 1914 amalgamation. Two other individuals, Joy Faseyiku, 63, and Alabede Janet, 64, were also arrested in connection with the campaign. All three suspects have been charged in court.
