Osun State Government Orders Schools to Begin Third Term Vacation Amid Planned Nationwide Protest

The Osun State Government has directed all primary and secondary schools, both public and private, to commence their third term vacation starting Wednesday. This decision comes in response to a planned nationwide protest against hunger scheduled for August 1.

A Public Service Announcement signed by Mr. A. Jimoh, the Permanent Secretary of the State Ministry of Education, was obtained in Osogbo on Monday. The announcement also advised parents and guardians to ensure the safety of their children during the vacation.

The announcement reads, “This is to inform the general public, particularly parents, guardians, and heads of both public and private schools in the state that due to the planned nationwide protests, all schools are directed to proceed on the third term vacation from Wednesday, 31st July, 2023. Parents and guardians are advised to ensure the safety of their wards during the vacation.”

Earlier on Monday, Governor Ademola Adeleke met with leaders of Civil Society Organisations and student groups in the state to discuss the proposed hunger strike. The outcome of the meeting was still pending at the time of filing this report.
