Osun State Polytechnic ASUP Issues Seven-Day Ultimatum to Management

The Osun State Polytechnic chapter of the Academic Staff Union of Polytechnics (ASUP) has issued a seven-day ultimatum to the institution’s management, demanding action on their welfare package or facing potential industrial unrest. This announcement was made in a letter signed by ASUP Chairman Dr. Olatunji Osunwole and Secretary Mr. Wasiu Ayinde, addressed to the Rector, Mr. Kehinde Alabi.

Dated September 23, 2024, the letter indicates that the union had previously issued a 21-day ultimatum, which expired on September 22, without any significant response from the management. The union expressed disappointment over the lack of action and decided to extend the deadline by an additional week.

The letter states, “After serving a notice of 21-day ultimatum and informing relevant stakeholders about our resolution, we saw no effective response. Therefore, a seven-day penultimate ultimatum has been given to the management to address our concerns and sustain industrial peace at the polytechnic.”

ASUP’s grievances include short payments of staff salaries, non-payment of statutory allowances, peculiar allowances for specific months, and the settlement of daily part-time teaching claims from the previous academic year.

Efforts to reach the management for a response to ASUP’s ultimatum were unsuccessful, as calls and messages to the institution’s spokesperson, Dr. Tope Abiola, went unanswered by the time of this report.
