More than 200 residents of Nnewi North Local Government Area have been enrolled in the Anambra State Health Insurance Agency (ASHIA) program, thanks to a sponsorship by local philanthropist Mr. Oliver Okonkwo. The enrollment event took place at Umuzu Village Hall in Nnewi, where ASHIA representatives held a session to inform beneficiaries about the program’s benefits and procedures.
Speaking on behalf of ASHIA, Mrs. Antonia Okoli explained that the health insurance scheme will grant beneficiaries access to healthcare services across a network of accredited hospitals without the financial burden of medical bills. She highlighted that enrollees could choose facilities that best meet their healthcare needs, making quality healthcare both accessible and affordable.
Mr. Okonkwo expressed his gratitude to ASHIA for organizing the enrollment and guiding beneficiaries through the process. He emphasized the importance of health insurance, pointing out that high healthcare costs can strain families without financial support systems. He encouraged the community to prioritize their health by consulting qualified medical professionals rather than resorting to self-medication or unlicensed practitioners.
Beneficiaries such as Mrs. Gloria Muojekwu and Mr. Okey Obeleagu expressed gratitude, noting that the health insurance would make quality healthcare more affordable and accessible, alleviating the financial strain of medical expenses.
