The National Working Committee (NWC) of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) is contemplating disciplinary measures against certain members of its Edo State chapter for alleged anti-party activities. Reports from Abuja indicate that the party leadership has received numerous petitions against Dan Orbih, the PDP National Vice Chairman (South South), and some associates.
A party insider, speaking on condition of anonymity, stated, “Although the party values cooperation from all factions in the state, Orbih and a few associates have consistently disregarded our collective interests. Despite previous interventions to reconcile differences, they have refused to cooperate.”
The source hinted that the party is preparing to issue official queries to members campaigning against its candidate, Dr. Asue Ighodalo. Those who fail to provide satisfactory explanations will face the party’s disciplinary committee.
Concerns have been raised within the party about Orbih’s actions, including his celebration following an erroneous media report about a court case involving the party. Another insider emphasized, “We will ensure due process and fairness. We have an election to win, and we must address these distractions promptly.”
Recently, the Edo State PDP Youth League called for sanctions against Orbih after a video surfaced showing him celebrating a court ruling that allegedly nullified the party’s primary. Orbih’s actions are seen as contravening Sections 58 (1) (a), (b), (f), and (j) of the PDP Constitution (amended in 2017), which list offenses including engaging in anti-party activities.
Section 59 (1) of the PDP Constitution allows for sanctions, including expulsion, for such offenses. Party leaders are now faced with the decision of whether Orbih can continue to hold his position or remain a member of the PDP amid these allegations.
