Labour Party’s 2023 presidential candidate, *Peter Obi*, has denied claims that he is seeking an automatic ticket or special treatment from the party ahead of the 2027 election.
Obi’s response, conveyed through his media aide, *Ibrahim Umar*, comes after the party’s National Publicity Secretary, *Obiora Ifoh*, refuted reports that the Labour Party had plans to field Obi, Abia State Governor *Alex Otti*, and other 2023 candidates in the next general election.
The statement follows an earlier declaration by *Abayomi Arabambi*, a factional spokesperson of the party, who had announced that the Labour Party would present Obi as its candidate to challenge *President Bola Tinubu’s* re-election bid. However, Ifoh dismissed the claim, insisting that no such decision had been made within the party’s leadership.
Reacting to the development, Umar stated that Obi remains focused on democratic principles and is not concerned with speculations about an automatic ticket.
“Our principal, Peter Obi, remains steadfast in his commitment to democracy and the well-being of all Nigerians,” he said. “He has never sought a free ticket or special treatment but has always emphasized the importance of a level playing field where individuals can compete fairly.”
Umar urged Obi’s supporters to remain focused on issues that matter rather than being swayed by misleading narratives. He reiterated that Obi’s priorities remain *good governance, economic development, and social justice*.
As discussions around the 2027 elections continue, Obi’s camp maintains that his decisions will be guided by principles of democracy, fairness, and equality.
