Pharmacy Council of Nigeria Seals Over 1,400 Premises in Nationwide Crackdown

The Pharmacy Council of Nigeria (PCN) has sealed 1,115 patent medicine shops and 294 pharmacies between April and September 2024 as part of its enforcement activities aimed at regulating the pharmaceutical sector. This was revealed in a detailed document obtained by The PUNCH on Monday. The enforcement was carried out in Gombe, Plateau, Jigawa, the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Bauchi, Cross River, and Kaduna.

The PCN, established under the Pharmacy Council of Nigeria Act 2022, is responsible for regulating pharmacy education, training, and practice, including overseeing patent medicine vendors. During the enforcement period, the council visited 5,409 premises, sealing 3,834 for various infractions, including illegal operations.

The council’s Registrar, Babashehu Ahmed, emphasized the PCN’s commitment to maintaining high standards in pharmacy practice across Nigeria.
