Police Arrest Lecturer for Allegedly Masterminding Abduction of Colleague’s Wife in Benue

Police in Benue State have arrested Dr. Ichor Tersagh, a lecturer at the Joseph Sarwuan Tarka University of Agriculture, Makurdi, for allegedly orchestrating the abduction of Mrs. Susan Anyagh, the wife of his colleague, Paul Anyagh, who is the chairman of the Academic Staff Union of Universities (JOSTUM) chapter.

The incident occurred on Saturday, when Mrs. Anyagh was ambushed and kidnapped by men along Otukpo Road, Makurdi. The kidnappers reportedly took N1.3 million from her car, beat her into a coma, and abandoned her on a bush path. The victim was later found along Yandev-Ugbema Road and rushed to the Primary Healthcare Clinic in Ameladu for medical treatment.

State Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Catherine Anene, confirmed the incident and revealed that after regaining consciousness, Mrs. Anyagh recalled seeing Dr. Tersagh near the scene of her abduction. She reportedly beckoned to him for help, but he allegedly ignored her and walked away.

Mrs. Anyagh explained that she had stopped her car after being flagged down by the kidnappers, who then forced her into the vehicle at gunpoint and ordered her to drive towards Wurukum. During the ordeal, the abductors reportedly received a call from Dr. Tersagh, who allegedly ordered that she be killed. However, upon spotting a police checkpoint, the kidnappers reversed and parked in a hidden location. They then took the money from her car and used a vehicle jack to strike her in the neck, causing her to collapse.

Dr. Tersagh has been arrested in connection with the crime, and investigations are ongoing. The victim’s husband, Paul Anyagh, confirmed the incident and stated that he was at the police command headquarters seeking further details on the case.
