Operatives of the Anambra State Police Command have apprehended a native doctor and his accomplice in connection with suspected armed robbery and kidnapping activities in Uru, Abagana, Njikoka Local Government Area of the state.
The arrested suspects, identified as Mr. Maduabuchukwu Ikechukwu Okafor (30 years old) and Mr. Nweze Chijindu (38 years old), both from Abagana, were taken into custody following the testimony of a rescued kidnap victim. The victim was freed on November 22, 2024, near Abagana Girls Secondary School, which prompted a joint operation by the police and Anambra Vigilante Operatives.
The security forces raided a shrine associated with the native doctor, where the two suspects were arrested. Two additional accomplices, Supuluchukwu Nweze (30 years) and Sunday Nwakanze (30 years), remain at large.
According to the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) of the command, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, the operatives recovered incriminating items, including a pump-action gun, the victim’s vehicle, rope, horsewhip, and more. Preliminary investigations revealed that the victim had been lured to the area through a phone call initiated by Sunday Nwakanze. The victim was then abducted at gunpoint, robbed, and taken to the shrine where he was bound and had his mouth sealed.
The two arrested suspects have confessed to their involvement in the crime and are currently cooperating with the police to provide further details on the whereabouts of other gang members.
The police have reiterated their commitment to maintaining the safety and security of all residents in Anambra State.
