Commissioner of Police Ikioye Orutugu today headed a specialized team to the scene of a murder and abduction incident in Oko, Orumba North Local Government Area. The visit followed reports that two people were killed and two others taken captive; two additional victims, including a woman, are receiving treatment at a local hospital.
On arrival, the commissioner and officers from the State Criminal Investigation Department, Tactical Teams, and the Operations Department carried out a detailed spot assessment. Orutugu met with the Local Government Chairman, Honorable Casmir Nwafor, community stakeholders, and leaders of the Oko Polytechnic Students Union to solicit enhanced cooperation in identifying and apprehending the suspects.
Chairman Nwafor and the student union leadership pledged to work with the police by sharing intelligence, assisting with evidence gathering, and supporting initiatives to strengthen local security. In response, Commissioner Orutugu promised a comprehensive investigative approach and affirmed his commitment to the welfare of the survivors.
Following the site visit, the commissioner proceeded to the hospital, where he engaged with facility management and offered support for the treatment of the injured victims. He then ordered immediate reinforcement of security patrols in areas with high concentrations of people—particularly hostels and schools—to deter further criminal activity.
Anambra State Police Command’s spokesman, Superintendent Tochukwu Ikenga, reiterated the command’s dedication to preventing a recurrence of such incidents through strategic collaboration with community members and other security agencies.
