PPSSC and ASUBEB Launch Statewide 2024/2025 Orientation for New Secondary School Students in Anambra

Anambra State’s Post Primary Schools Service Commission (PPSSC) and Anambra State Universal Basic Education Board (ASUBEB) have jointly launched the 2024/2025 orientation program for newly admitted JSS1, SS1, and transfer students across state secondary schools. The inaugural ceremony took place at Maria Regina Model Comprehensive Secondary School, Nnewi, with the theme “Education: A Bedrock of Societal Transformation.”

During her opening address, Professor Nkechi Ikediugwu, Chairperson of PPSSC, emphasized the importance of parental support in complementing the state’s educational efforts. She urged parents to provide the necessary learning materials for their children, noting that education is crucial for societal growth and individual empowerment. Professor Ikediugwu expressed gratitude to Governor Chukwuma Soludo for his commitment to free, quality, and compulsory education in Anambra State.

Dr. Vera Nwadinobi, ASUBEB’s Executive Chairman, echoed the theme’s focus on creating a supportive learning environment, advising students to approach their new academic journey with resilience and openness. She highlighted strategies for success, such as organization, relationship-building, and mental resilience, which are essential for adapting to new environments.

Mrs. Mary Umennadi, Zonal Director of Education for PPSSC in Nnewi, and Mrs. Chika Ilomuanya, Principal of the host school, welcomed the students and emphasized the orientation’s role in easing their transition into academic and social life. The program, they noted, aims to provide students with essential tools to thrive and make positive contributions to society.

The event featured a ceremonial oath-taking, interactive Q&A sessions, traditional Zulu dance, parades, and welcome songs, adding a cultural touch to the orientation.
