President Bola Tinubu has approved the establishment of a federal university in Southern Kaduna, Vice President Kashim Shettima announced over the weekend. The decision was made following discussions with Senator Katung and members of the House of Representatives, who advocated for the initiative. Shettima shared the news during a condolence visit to the Kukah family in Ikulu Kingdom, Zangon Kataf Local Government Area, Kaduna State, after the death of Yohanna Kukah, the Agwom Akulu of Ikulu Chiefdom, a relative of Bishop Matthew Kukah of the Catholic Diocese of Sokoto.
Shettima also revealed that talks are underway to set up a Federal Medical Centre in Kafanchan, Kaduna State, further demonstrating the administration’s commitment to improving healthcare and education in the region.
“The President has consented to the establishment of a federal university in Southern Kaduna,” Shettima said, underscoring the President’s dedication to the development of the region. He also highlighted President Tinubu’s attention to Southern Kaduna’s security needs, citing the appointment of Gen. Christopher Musa as Chief of Defence Staff.
Shettima commended Kaduna State Governor, Senator Uba Sani, for his inclusive governance and affirmed that the federal government would collaborate with the state to improve infrastructure, particularly roads, in Southern Kaduna.
During the visit, Bishop Kukah expressed gratitude to the Vice President for his support, particularly highlighting the poor road conditions that made the trip difficult. He thanked Shettima for his solidarity with the Ikulu community, emphasizing their appreciation for the federal government’s efforts to support the region.
