President Bola Tinubu will depart Abuja on Sunday for Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, to attend the 19th G20 Leaders’ Summit, the Presidency has announced. The summit, scheduled from November 18 to 19, will focus on the theme, *‘Building a Just World and a Sustainable Planet,’* with discussions centered on combating hunger and poverty, reforming global governance institutions, and advancing sustainable development and energy transition.

The Nigerian leader is attending the summit at the invitation of Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva, the current President of Brazil and chair of the G20 for this year. The gathering will feature heads of state and government from the world’s top 20 economies, as well as representatives from the European Union, the African Union, and other multilateral institutions.

A statement by the Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, highlighted that Nigeria has long advocated for the reform of global governance systems and has consistently presented itself as a strong candidate for a permanent seat on the United Nations Security Council.

During the summit, President Tinubu is also expected to engage in bilateral discussions to further Nigeria’s socio-economic reforms. He will be accompanied by several key government officials, including the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Yusuf Tuggar; Ministers of Livestock Development, Idi Mukhtar Maiha; Art, Tourism, Culture and Creative Economy, Hannatu Musawa; and Minister of State for Agriculture and Food Security, Aliyu Abdullahi. The Director General of the National Intelligence Agency, Mohammed Mohammed, will also be part of the delegation.
