Primate Ndukuba Inaugurates University on the Niger Permanent Site, Umunya

The Archbishop, Metropolitan, and Primate of All Nigeria, Most Rev. Henry Ndukuba, has officially inaugurated the permanent site of the University on the Niger (UNINIGER) in Umunya, alongside commissioning several completed projects within the institution.

The projects, which were commissioned by Primate Ndukuba in collaboration with Archbishops and Bishops of the Church of Nigeria, include internal roads, a students’ hostel, the Faculty of Nursing Sciences, and the University Administrative Block, among others.

Delivering a sermon during the service, Primate Ndukuba praised the Diocese on the Niger for upholding the legacy of the church fathers by fostering education and preparing young people for the service of God and humanity. He also commended the Anglican faithful and others who contributed to the establishment of the university.

In his welcome address, the Chancellor of the University, Rt. Rev. Owen Nwokolo, described the institution as the fruition of years of dedication and pursuit of a vision for societal educational development. He acknowledged the contributions of the Women’s Ministry, Knights of St. Christopher, Governor Chukwuma Soludo, Senator Tony Nwoye, former Minister of Aviation Chief Osita Chidoka, and others.

The Vice-Chancellor, Professor Chinedu Nebo, highlighted that the Diocese received its operating license from the Federal Government in June 2023. He emphasized UNINIGER’s vision to become a leading institution excelling in knowledge dissemination, character building, and leadership, aiming to produce entrepreneurial and globally competitive graduates for national development.

The event attracted notable dignitaries, including former Governor Peter Obi, Senators Tony Nwoye and Victor Umeh, Speaker of the Anambra State House of Assembly Rt. Hon. Somtochukwu Udeze, and former Health Minister Dr. Tim Menakaya, among others.
