Miss Makua Nwosu of Loretto Special Science School, Adazi-Nnukwu, triumphed in the 14th edition of the Prince Emeka Ayabazu Science Quiz Competition, while students from Mata Amabilis Umuoji clinched first place in the Science Fair exhibition with their innovative e-hospital project.
Miss Nwosu received N35,000 along with several textbooks and exercise books, and the Mata Amabilis Umuoji team was awarded N45,000 for their winning project.
The event, organized by the Prince Emeka Ayabazu Foundation in collaboration with the Post Primary Schools Service Commission (PPSSC), was held at the Utility Hall of the Anambra State Universal Basic Education Board (ASUBEB) in Awka. It drew students, teachers, and foundation officials.
Students showcased innovative devices designed to solve everyday problems, including e-hospital, automatic change-over systems, smoke and gas detectors, smart goggles for the blind, and steam power electricity generators.
Prince Emeka Ayabazu, the benefactor of the foundation, addressed the gathering through Elder Roland Akujieze. He emphasized the theme of the event, “Application of Science and Technology in Solving Modern Problems,” highlighting the importance of encouraging young minds to advance their knowledge in science and technology for both short-term and long-term benefits.
Chief Ayabazu expressed gratitude to Governor Chukwuma Soludo for his contributions to Anambra State and prayed for continued success in his initiatives. He reaffirmed the foundation’s commitment to advancing science and technology education in collaboration with partners and stakeholders.
Professor Nkechi Ikediugwu, Chairman of PPSSC, praised the foundation for elevating the academic achievements of students. She also thanked Governor Soludo for fostering an environment conducive to science education, which includes recruiting teachers to fill critical gaps.
She called on individuals and education enthusiasts to follow Prince Ayabazu’s example and congratulated the students who reached the final level of the competition.
Mrs. Eucharia Ikegwuonwu, Director of the Science and Technology Department at PPSSC, noted the annual improvement in the competition and the students’ growing familiarity with ICT gadgets through the Computer Based Quiz.
Chief Chidi Abafor, Chairman of the occasion, lauded Chief Ayabazu’s dedication to promoting science and technology education. He highlighted Ayabazu’s recognition by the state government as a pillar of education in Anambra State.
The overall winner, Miss Nwosu, attributed her success to hard work and dedication, expressing gratitude to the sponsors and organizers for the opportunity.
The event featured award presentations, the cutting of Mrs. Ayabazu’s birthday cake, fair exhibitions, and cultural dances.
