The Anambra State Commissioner of Police, Dr. Ikioye Orutugu, has confirmed that the principal suspects involved in the kidnap and murder of Honourable Justice Azuka, a lawmaker representing Onitsha North I State Constituency, remain in police custody. This announcement came during a press briefing where the police also paraded Tochukwu Akolisa, an alleged accomplice who reportedly received the stolen vehicle linked to the crime.
Dr. Orutugu revealed that while Akolisa is in custody, two other suspects, Ikemefuna Ossai from Delta State and Chinedu Okoli from Imo State, are still at large. He assured the public that efforts are underway to re-arrest the fleeing suspects and prevent similar operational lapses in the future.
In a related development, the Commissioner disclosed that on February 18, 2025, at approximately 8:00 PM, police operatives at Upper Iweka arrested one Chigozie Orji, who was found in possession of a locally fabricated Beretta pistol concealed in a bag. Additionally, an abducted victim was successfully rescued by officers of the command.
Dr. Orutugu emphasized the importance of collaboration with sister security agencies and local vigilante groups to enhance operational efficiency and security coverage across the state. He reiterated the command’s commitment to disrupting criminal activities and maintaining Anambra State as a safe and secure environment for residents and visitors alike.
The police chief’s remarks underscore the ongoing efforts to address crime and ensure justice in the wake of the tragic killing of the lawmaker, while also highlighting the broader strategy to bolster security in the state.
