The Rural Access and Agricultural Marketing Project (RAAMP) has announced plans to construct 600 kilometers of roads across all local government areas in Anambra State.
This development was disclosed during a stakeholders’ workshop in Awka, organized by the Anambra State RAAMP Coordinator, Professor Chukwuemeka Orakwue.
Governor Chukwuma Soludo, represented by his Chief of Staff, Mr. Ernest Ezeajughi, commended the initiative and noted that partnerships with donor agencies have significantly benefited the state. He explained that his administration swiftly paid counterpart funds to ensure Anambra qualifies for such developmental projects. The governor also acknowledged the European Investment Bank for including Anambra among six states selected for the current phase of RAAMP, aligning with his administration’s commitment to infrastructure and road development.
The National RAAMP Coordinator, Engineer Mohammed Bodinga, represented by National Auditor Mr. Emmanuel Agu, shared updates on the project’s progress. He revealed that agreements have been signed and are awaiting Federal Executive Council approval before implementation begins.
Professor Orakwue highlighted the workshop’s purpose, emphasizing the importance of engaging traditional rulers, women leaders, youth leaders, and Presidents General of communities to ensure their support for RAAMP. He noted that the project aims to enhance the lives of farmers by improving access to markets and agricultural hubs.
Rural Road Design Consultant, Engineer Nasiru Danlami, elaborated on RAAMP’s goals, which include creating access roads to connect farmers to their farms and markets, facilitating easier transportation of produce. He stressed the program’s importance in preventing losses from perishable goods and ensuring farmers receive better value for their products.
Representatives from the Anambra State Ministry of Works, including Engineer Chidi Obiudu and Engineer Valentine Ifedi, underlined the economic benefits of the project for farmers and the state. They urged community members to support the initiative, emphasizing that it is designed to benefit their livelihoods, not to disrupt their localities.
RAAMP’s implementation is expected to significantly boost agriculture, improve rural connectivity, and contribute to the economic growth of Anambra State.
