After months of internal controversies, the Governing Council of the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG) has appointed Pastor Kayode Pitan, former Managing Director of the Bank of Industry (BOI), as the new Senior Pastor of the City of David Parish in Lagos. This appointment follows the suspension of the former Senior Pastor, Idowu Iluyomade, who faced allegations of corruption and defiance against a transfer order.
Pitan’s appointment, which was not publicly announced during the church’s recent national convention, officially marks the end of Iluyomade’s tenure at the parish. Pastor Charles Kpandei, who had been overseeing the City of David since Iluyomade’s suspension, will now hand over leadership to Pitan.
Insiders within the church revealed that Pitan was selected for the role due to his extensive experience in the corporate world, which is expected to be instrumental in managing the ongoing Trinity Tower Project, a major initiative under the parish’s supervision.
While Iluyomade has remained silent on the leadership change, sources indicate that he is reportedly uncomfortable with the decision, leaving his future within the RCCG uncertain.
With his new role, Pastor Pitan will also serve as the Pastor-in-charge of RCCG Region 20, with the City of David as its headquarters. He will be supported by Pastor Ben Akabueze, who has been appointed as the Assistant Pastor.
