Renovated Laboratory Complex Handed Over to CSS Enugwu-Agidi; Groundbreaking Ceremony Held for Corpers’ Lodge

The ‘Educate Enugwu-Agidi Committee,’ a group formed by patrons and matrons of Community Secondary School (CSS) and Government Technical College (GTC) Enugwu-Agidi, has officially handed over a newly renovated and remodeled laboratory complex to CSS Enugwu-Agidi. The upgraded facility, named the Mrs. Mary Okam Laboratory Complex, includes well-equipped laboratories for Biology, Chemistry, and Physics, as well as an ICT center.

The event also featured a groundbreaking ceremony for a new six-bedroom Corpers’ Lodge. This facility is intended to provide free and comfortable accommodation for National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) members posted to the school, ensuring better staffing and support for the students.

Speaking at the handover ceremony, Anambra State Commissioner for Education, Professor Ngozi Chuma-Udeh, commended the community for their progressive efforts. She emphasized that Governor Chukwuma Soludo’s commitment to improving education across the state is unwavering, despite challenges such as a shortage of teachers. She also praised the partnership between the community and the government, calling it a model for other regions to follow.

The traditional ruler of Enugwu-Agidi, Igwe Michael Okekeuche, highlighted previous challenges faced by the school, including security issues from herdsmen and fire incidents that destroyed the old laboratories. He called on the government to provide additional support to further uplift the school.

Prince Chinedu Ikeanyi, the National Coordinator of the Educate Enugwu-Agidi Committee, represented by Engineer Victor Onwudinjo, said the community’s efforts to improve education are in line with Governor Soludo’s directive to school principals to engage their local communities in educational development. He urged more individuals in the community to join these efforts.

Principal of CSS Enugwu-Agidi, Mrs. Thecla Azubike, lauded the projects, noting that the refurbished laboratory complex would greatly enhance the teaching and learning experience. She recalled the deteriorated state of the school’s infrastructure when she first arrived and expressed gratitude for the transformation.

The event was attended by various dignitaries, including Mrs. Ifeoma Agbaizu, Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Education, and Dr. Uche Okeke, a member of the PPSSC Awka zone. The ceremony also featured a cultural dance performance by students of the school.
