Residents of Iyiowa Odekpe in Ogbaru Local Government Area have appealed to Anambra State Governor, Professor Chukwuma Soludo, to urgently intervene in the illegal erection of structures on a major flood channel in the area.
The structures, which include a perimeter fence and a block industry, were reportedly built along Asha Street by School Road. According to residents, the development has obstructed the flood channel and blocked a section of Asha Road that is intended to connect to the Second Niger Bridge in the future.
Speaking with ABS News, Mr. Uchenna Enyinwa expressed concern over the recurring flood incidents in the area during the rainy season. He noted that the street has become a danger zone where lives are lost annually due to uncontrolled floodwaters.
The Chairman of the Iyiowa Community Landlord and Tenant Association, Mr. Sunday Obinze, confirmed that the perimeter fencing is obstructing Asha Road. He disclosed that the Anambra State Physical Planning Board has marked the illegal structures for removal and directed the owner, Mr. Onyebuchi Iseke, to demolish the office building and fence.
Meanwhile, Mr. Iseke and Madam Chinelo Gabez, who were reportedly in a dispute over the location of a proposed gate, were represented by Mr. Emmanuel Iloabuchi. He thanked the Association’s chairman for mediating and assured that both parties would resolve the issue peacefully.
