The Rivers State Police Command has apprehended three suspected serial rapists, including two ex-convicts, accused of employing deceitful tactics to lure victims, perpetrate rape, and steal valuables across Port Harcourt and other areas of the state.
According to the command’s spokesperson, Grace Iringe-Koko, the suspects utilized online communication channels to entice victims to hotels, where they allegedly drugged and assaulted them.
Iringe-Koko revealed that the arrest of one of the suspects, 32-year-old Louise Brutolu, followed swift police intervention in a reported abduction case. Investigations unveiled Brutolu’s involvement in multiple crimes, prompting a comprehensive crackdown on the criminal syndicate.
The statement issued by the command detailed Brutolu’s modus operandi, stating, “Brutolu lured victims to the Pacific Suite Hotel, Abuloma, through phone chats, subsequently incapacitating them with drugs and robbing them of their possessions.”
The arrest of Brutolu led to the recovery of stolen items, including mobile phones, handbags, and ATM cards, belonging to various victims. Further investigations identified Brutolu’s alleged accomplice, whose identity has been withheld for investigative purposes.
In a separate incident, the command also apprehended Jenifer Timi, 28, from Burutu in Delta State, for her involvement in similar criminal activities. Timi targeted individuals through social media platforms, such as Instagram, Tinder, and Badoo, enticing victims to hotel rooms where they were drugged, assaulted, and robbed.
The police emphasized the importance of vigilance and caution when interacting with strangers online, urging individuals to prioritize personal safety and inform trusted contacts of their whereabouts.
Commissioner of Police Olatunji Disu affirmed the command’s commitment to safeguarding residents and combating emerging criminal threats. The police reiterated their dedication to raising awareness and employing proactive measures to ensure the safety and security of all citizens.
The arrests mark a significant step in combating online-related crimes and underscore the necessity for continuous vigilance in safeguarding against such nefarious activities.
