Construction activities on Orumba Street, Edumund Street, and their extensions (1 through 4) in Okpoko, Ogbaru Council Area, are moving swiftly, according to a recent visit by ABS News.
When the ABS News crew visited the area, they observed that earthworks were actively ongoing along Orumba Street, while drainage systems on both sides had already been completed. In addition, work was also underway at the nearby sakamori drainage system, which is designed to channel floodwaters into the River Niger.
Residents of the community, including Mr. Thomas Agbala, Mrs. Alice Igwe, and Mr. Chinecherem Igwe, expressed satisfaction with the project. They explained that the road stretches from Orumba Street through Imo Street to AP Junction, linking the Onitsha-Owerri Road. The residents noted that the road had remained in a terrible condition for over two decades and praised Governor Charles Soludo for what they described as a genuine commitment to developing the previously neglected Okpoko community.
Children were also seen gathered in groups, observing the construction work from a distance. Two of them, Ifeanyi Akajiugo and Ifeanyi Nwankwo, said the new roads would benefit everyone and urged for the project to be completed quickly.
